Salt Lake City’s NBC affiliate is chasing a story about the possibility of Cabela’s opening a store in Utah.
‘Outdoorsman’s Disneyland’ Coming to Utah
Aug. 9, 2004
A major name for retail in outdoor and recreation appears to be headed to Utah. Cabelas is said to be planning to build near Point of the Mountain and Eyewitness News has learned an official announcement is coming soon.
We usually don’t make a big deal about a new store planning to build. But in the world of the outdoors, this is the equivalent of the Disneyland of sporting goods stores.
Imagine a store bigger than a Super Wal-Mart, with more than just hunting, fishing and camping products, but an outdoors experience, indoors. Other Cabela’s have become tourist attractions in and of themselves.
For example, Cabela’s other 13 stores typically include a 60- thousand gallon aquarium, with fish native to the area; a waterfall and trout stream running inside the store; an indoor archery and gun range; a restaurant with a menu of wild game dishes; and of course a huge inventory of hunting, fishing and outdoor equipment.
No one from Cabelas or government leaders will talk about the possibility of the store, but Eyewitness News has learned an announcement is on the way, within the next few weeks.
