Podcast #1 - Wake up and Smell the Cat Poo Coffee

Coffee_image Let's go podcasting!

This is my first try, so please let me know what you think!

I recently traveled to Australia for a project and spent a few days visiting our Wizard of Ads Australia partner, Craig Arthur and his family.

We visited the source of the World Famous Cat Poo Coffee! Heritage Tea Rooms. Enjoy!

Anthony Garcia on Decoding Personality

Anthony Garcia has a great post over at GrokDotCom today that will help you understand why we use Personas in our Persuasion Architecture work.

Recently, I've had several conversations with clients about rewards and why we compete. So, when I came across this snippet from Lifehack.org, it prompted me to share a different perspective:

Author of “Motivation from the Inside Out: Rethinking Rewards, Assessment, and Learning” and “Beyond Bribes and Threats: Realistic Alternatives to Controlling Students’ Behavior”, Alfie Kohn wrote this piece for the New York Times in 1993 about rewards in the workplace not motivating employees the right way.

Kohn suggests that these rewards act the exact same as punishments and create negative work environments.

I call BS on this simplistic presumption. The problem isn't the reward itself.  The problem is misunderstanding the person's motivations and thereby offering the wrong reward.

Go read the rest of the article...Find out WHY Anthony calls BS.

Are You Still in Your Comfort Zone?

Drive_2 Are you doing anything that makes you uncomfortable?

A couple of days ago, on the way out to our WWII Vintage Munitions Storage Bunker, I let my 12-year-old daughter drive. Shhh. Don't tell. BTW...she's pretty darned good. It's a step into the land of discomfort.

Yes, it's really an explosives storage facility.

General_instructions Here's the sign from inside the door. There are some other good pics of the facility here. Don't worry, the only things stored in these things since the 1960s are grain, furniture and crap that won't sell at garage sales.

Today, I put myself in the care of a personal trainer. There's a step beyond the comfort zone.

Yesterday, I committed to teaching at Wizard Academy again. Thanks Roy! I needed the kick in the butt.

I hope that some of you who sent emails yesterday will actually step out of your fear of the web and register for the class!

Web and Blog Tools for the TOTALLY Clueless

Questionmark I'm gathering information. I've told people that TypePad is easy. Heck, I can use it.

So, what are the other easy web tools?  I've looked into Squarespace, and I like it.

What else is out there?  I want web tools that create good-looking sites without the owner having to know anything but pointing a mouse. No hosting issues.

Any suggestions?

We just want a few more tools in our belt before we gather in Austin to create some more great and simple sites and blogs.  By the way, if you plan on attending Accelerated Branding or Wonder Branding or the Academy Reunion, we can discuss these things in person. (I should have just found a house to rent in Austin for October!)

Thanks for Stopping By!

Images1 TypePad told me they were going to do this a couple of weeks ago. You'd think I would have swept up the place a bit before company arrived. But, that's not me.

So, have a look around. Let me know if you have any questions. If you want to read more of my writing, you'll find some at:

WizardofAds.com
GrokdotCom.com
WizardofAdsAustralia.com.au
And, I've been toying with another site for a few weeks. Should probably say "under construction", but what the heck, stop by anyway.
